We had a plan for 2009-2010 and it worked. While we were on the Rallye Iles du Soleil there was a clear timetable, routes and shore-based activities, so for seven months we did not have to plan the big things. Then on 19th April 2010 we were cast adrift and we had to make our own decisions on destinations and durations of stay. It was a bit of a shock.
Then when we arrived in the Caribbean, it was another shock – very American. However, after about six weeks of just chilling and visiting Tobago, Trinidad, Grenada and Carriacou, we were starting to get a bit anxious about having a plan that only involved sailing up and down the Lesser Antilles, swimming, snorkelling, diving, walking and enjoying the music and bars We know – it sounds a bit ungrateful.
Then we met some very nice Canadians in Prickly Bay, Grenada (Mike and Lilliane on Meikyo) and they told us about a trip they had completed a year earlier: The Down East Circle Route – a 2400nm trip which for us would start and finish in New York, and involve:
Heading up the Hudson River and Oswego Canal to Lake Ontario;
Going down the St Lawrence seaway via Montreal and Quebec;
Cruising the Northumberland Strait and Nova Scotia;
Heading back south down the New England coast.
Once again, we were inspired by the difference and the adventure.
So, the plan is to spend some time in the Lesser Antilles, then head for Bermuda and on to New York and cruise the Down East Circle Route.
However, what comes after all this is to be ... planned.
