Food & Drink
Restaurants and pubs we have enjoyed when with Minnie B

The restaurants listed here have been visited when with Minnie B or are visitable by boat and so of interest particularly to sailors.  We have listed those that we thought provided good food and a good ambience.  Only we know the ones we visited but don’t get a mention.

We are aware that the quality of restaurants may change over time – chefs and owners come and go - so we have provided the month and year when we last visited with Minnie B.  So, caveat emptor … which means “Don’t drink too much on an empty stomach”.

Spain – Galicia

June 2009

Betanzos: La Casilla, Ctra de Castilla 90 – fabulous tortilla de patata – dos raciones is enough for four people with some salad and bread.  It’s a bit of a walk from the centre, but worth the trip - it is apparently famous throughout Spain. June 2009

La Coruna: Real Club Nautico by Darsena de la Marina – the almanac and pilot book put you off but don’t be deterred, as it’s not as strict in dress code as it used to be.  The food is not gourmet, albeit the starters are excellent, but the price is so good that it is excellent value for money, and it has great views as well as a very amenable ambience.  June 2009

Sada:  Bahia Restaurante, Avda. Republica Argentina – in the heart of Sada and serves the most gigantic steaks, along with Galician fish dishes such as merluza (hake) and rape (monkfish). June 2009

Portosin, Ria de Muros: Club Nautico - very good mariscos (shell-fish) and pescado (fish). Great views too over the Ria and the service is fast without being rushed - basically the waiter had a lot to do and ran around (efficiently) at 100mph. Recommended.

July 2009

Bayona : Parador (cafe) is set high on the walls of the Monterreal Castle and has fabulous views north to Las Islas Ons. The food is excellent (e.g. calamares) and served well. Not the cheapest, but those views ... .

Portugal

Porto:  Adega Sao Nicolao, in the heart of Riberia and down a narrow lane. Serves good bacalhau (dried/salted cod) and sardines. The House white wine is a slightly sparkling vinho verde and very refreshing on a hot day. The waiter seems to speak most languages and translates the menu for you.
